PathoDetect Mylab’s COVID-19 Coronavirus Testing Kits – All You Need To Know!
Check PathoDetect Mylab’s COVID-19 Coronavirus Testing Kits in India, commercial approval from Indian FDA/CDSCO. How does MyLab PathoDetect Kit Works?
Corona Virus: A tiny 60-140 NANOMETERS in Diameter microorganism has been able to crash the stock market, cause thousands of deaths, and lock people in their houses. Initially, India was importing Covid-19 Test Kits from Germany due to which the cost for testing was going as high as Rs. 5000 per test (In Private Hospitals).
Pune-based molecular diagnostics company Mylab Discovery Solutions Pvt Ltd, which specializes in molecular diagnostic kits has developed the first made-in-India test kit for COVID-19 in a record time of six weeks! They’ve named their kit as MyLab Pathodetect COVID-19 Qualitative PCR kit. PathoDetect has received commercial approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) for its COVID-19 test kit.
“With emphasis on ‘Make in India’ and support from local and central government, the COVID- 19 kit has been made as per WHO/CDC guidelines. It was developed and evaluated in a record time,” Hasmukh Rawal, Managing Director, Mylab Discovery Solutions said.

Mylab, founded in 2016, describes itself as a “young and dynamic biotechnology company that develops and commercializes molecular diagnostic detection kits.”
As we can see, MyLab is only 4 Years Old but yet they have 150 different products for testing and screening. India is a country where every household has a doctor or an engineer. This may turn out to be beneficial for our country.
“We have been trying hard to make cutting edge technology available to our country at a reasonable and affordable price. Since this test is based on the sensitive PCR technology, even early-stage infection can be detected, with highest accuracy as has been seen during tests at ICMR. The ICMR tested, CDSCO approved kit makes detection faster too,” said Shailendra Kawade, Executive Director at Mylab.
HOW DOES MYLAB PATHODETECT KIT WORKS?
Dr. Gautam Wankhede, Medical Affairs Director at Mylab, said that the kits are based on a technology known as RT (Real-Time) PCR and thus any lab which would want to use the test kit would need to have the RT PCR instrument. “There are about 5000 such instruments available across various labs in India. While some of the instruments might be in research lab services that are not involved in patient diagnostics, a substantial amount of these instruments are already present in labs across the country. This is the only instrument required to use the test kit,” Wankhede explained.
The current turn around time for the kit is two and a half hours. If you were thinking to yourself “How much time it takes to perform the Corona Virus test” then here is your answer. However, current testing methods were taking a couple of hours. This MyLab PathoDetect will change the game.
HOW MANY COVID-19 TESTS CAN BE DONE?
Currently, MyLab is manufacturing 15,000 patient test kits a day. As these kits require a PCR instrument to function, it limits the widespread use. There are 4000-5000 PCR instruments available in India and if every lab is given permission to conduct the tests right now, the company can provide more kits which will increase the potential to Test 3,00,000 to 4,00,000 patients daily!
